Nowadays, most of the foods we consume contain added sugar. The negative effects of sugar far outweigh its benefits.

Sugar consumption can lead to sleep disturbances and fluctuating hunger levels. Excessive sugar intake drains the body’s energy. Dental issues such as cavities and toothaches are commonly seen in those who consume a lot of sugar. Too much sugar can also cause the body to become resistant to insulin, which may result in skin problems like acne.

High sugar intake triggers a process in the body called glycation, which accelerates skin aging. Overconsumption of sugar significantly increases body weight. It also raises the risk of high blood pressure.

Sugar is linked to serious health conditions such as cancer, heart problems, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, depression, and more. Additionally, it contributes to kidney issues, memory loss, body and joint pain, and digestive problems.

That’s why it is important to take preventive steps to reduce sugar intake.

According to USDA guidelines, sugar consumption should not exceed 10% of your daily calories. Some studies even suggest limiting sugar to less than 25 grams per day. It’s better to consume tea, coffee, beverages, and juices without added sugar. The naturally occurring sugars found in fruits and vegetables are healthy and beneficial for the body.

Though sugar may taste sweet, there is no doubt it is a curse for human health. Let us ensure that the next generation does not live a life burdened with diabetes. Let’s stay healthy and work towards building a healthier India.
