Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated to honor the contribution of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to the growth and integration of India. The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, decided to celebrate this day for the first time in 2003.

This date was chosen to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. It symbolizes the role of NRIs who, despite living abroad for employment, come forward to support India in times of need.

Every year, the Central Government organizes a special convention on this day and felicitates members of the Indian diaspora who have contributed to India's progress.

This year (2025), the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebration will take place in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10.

Let us express our gratitude to all those living abroad who continue to serve our nation in various ways.

Wishing everyone a Happy Pravasi Bharatiya Divas!
