January 16 marks a significant day in India’s battle against the global COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when many countries were struggling without vaccines, India developed its own vaccine and began its public vaccination drive on this very day.

Manish Kumar, a sanitation worker, became the first person in India to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Interestingly, on the same day in 2022, World's No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic was deported by the Australian government for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
