May 3 is dedicated to raising awareness about the needs of specially-abled pets.

Animal advocate, author, and pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige established National Specially-Abled Pets Day. This day is reserved to highlight pets with disabilities who are in need of loving homes.
When animal lovers consider adoption, they are informed about specially-abled pets. If a pet is deaf or blind, special attention is given to their care.

World Press Freedom Day is also observed on this date.
That is, May 3 is observed as World Press Freedom Day. Following a recommendation from UNESCO’s General Conference in 1991, the United Nations General Assembly began celebrating World Press Freedom Day annually on May 3 starting in 1993.
